Steve Symons's blog

final day to move things as far as possible.

so added a way of changing cursor and more layers of sound.

Following discussion with Colm 2 things emerge

1 if there is a line from random sounds to stepping through a fixed structure i need to find a balance where there there is change and interest, yet also need to give sense that sounds are made from an intent. there must be the sense of a shared and consistant design, however I could balance that with something more playful.

2 sounds will remain abstract and will avoid overly relations to music (now that's a whole debate in its self) and one for another time.

wow. a great turn out for this! Thank you everyone who came.

Very very useful, loads of discussion about the overall concept and the system, little on the sounds used, how polite of everyone!

One very clear point is the rethurn to the gallery.

SO
1 audience enetrs gallery, sees the map/history of previous users' actions, hear sound .... but also need to start the learnign process of what and how the system works. i want this initial contact to act as the stimulus for taking a backpack out and claiming a piece of ground for themselves.

ooo feeling old today.

experimented with reacTable software (http://www.iua.upf.edu/mtg/reacTable/?software). had to use early version as latter ones have Universal Binary support and I am not on mactel yet. could work well, but I would need to set up a proper table. this is a problem with simulations - the simulation becomes more than the work itself..... not always a problem.

started adding more layers of sound - so there is a base layer of pink and filtered pink noise, then added a formant ugen. changes nicely - so signals when you move over someones path very well. but the range

Arrived. Here at e:vent as part of a seris of micro-residency (well calling a 3 day visit a 'resideny' seemed a bit grand, micro-brewery thing going on).

Aim of the days is to give me an intense period to explore developing aura v2 (link to etails of aura1 at http://muio.org).

Basically I am interested in how people can leave sonic footprints as they move about an outdoor space. Its used GPS tracking.

The first system operates like a simple drawing package. You control a cursor by moving around (hey GPS drawing again!), but the image you draw/erase even on is shared with others so it represents a history.

Good chat with 3 artists, discussed how aura2 could develop, then showed using video as interface and also muio interface.

Issues raised:-
- can people change or choose their 'drawing tool'
- would you pick up a sense of the paths that you cross and take them with you
- adding a layer of sound ontop of the base filtering
- prototyping + interface, not sure the joystick is working that well.
