New work by David Murphy and Kate Owens.
The exhibition traces the influence of work performed by hand on the otherwise anonymous scale of industrial production techniques.
Attesting to a unique presence behind these marks, the artists uncover singularity within repetitive processes. Here, the broken rule and the glitch open up gaps for improvised gestures and adjusted patterning.
This exhibition has also been the catalyst for a new dance-based project initiated by Murphy and Owens. The outcome of this project, which examines movement and expression at the perimeter of production, will be realised later this year.
Part of the ‘Brief Habits’ programme curated by Shama Khanna, supported by Arts Council England.
