Categories:

SwanQuake appropriates the language of games to construct an alternative universe and will be installed at V22 Ashwin Street, London 19 September- 3 November 2008.

SwanQuake provides a completely novel take on the ‘Shoot ‘Em Up’ gaming experience. By subverting the language of computer gaming SwanQuake creates a games world where creatures & characters are dancers performing a brand new choreographic work. Part way between a game and a performance, the interactive environment hosts both performers and viewers in a unique 3D world. These unexpected views give fresh insights into the language of gaming and gameplay - performance and performer. The first part of the SwanQuake Project previewed at the AURORA festival in Norwich from 7-10 November 2007 with the accompanying publication SwanQuake: the user manual launching at igloo studios in London 28 March 2008.

SwanQuake: the users manual - contains a series of commissioned essays on subjects such as: Art is DOOMed: The spawning of game art by Shiralee Saul & Helen Stuckey (curator of Games Lab at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image) & Gaming, Uncanny Realism and Technical Demonstration by David Surman (senior lecturer in computer games design, University of Wales)
